Indeed one critic suggested Genée's performance could reawaken the public's interest in ballet. She took over the leading role from Antonietta dell'Era but had, unusually, been permitted to be involved in its creation. A variation/solo from this ballet which showed off her lightness and speed became Genée's 'party piece' and was inserted into many ballets throughout her dancing career. It wa,s included when she made her debut in London at the Empire Theatre in the Treasure Island scene in Monte Cristo. She also featured it on her American tours and worked it into A Dream of Roses and Butterflies in 1911.\n ","physicalDescription":"Photograph of Adeline Genée.
