The medallion has an obverse only representing Pierre Jeannin, Conseiller du Roi, Surintendant des Finances (1540-1622). \nThe commemorative portrait medal was especially highly regarded in France during the first half of the 17th century. Guillaume Dupré (1579-1644), court medallist to Henry IV, undertook medallic portrait commissions in Italy from 1612. Dupré's grasp of the Italian tradition, together with his considerable technical skills, enabled him to cast medals in a style that proved influential on succeeding generations of French medallists.","physicalDescription":"Obv. only, with bust of Pierre Jeannin, Privy Councillor and Treasurer to Henri IV.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Dupré, Guillaume","id":"A11992"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"bronze","id":"AAT10957"}],"techniques":[{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bronze","categories":[{"text":"Medallions","id":"THES49034"},{"text":"Plaques & Plaquettes","id":"THES49031"},{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"006","id":"THES395329"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Medallion","id":"x31798"}],[{"text":"Plaque","id":"AAT10262"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"France","id":"x28849"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1618","earliest":"1618-01-01","latest":"1618-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"18.73","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Bought in 1866.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Medallion plaque, bronze, bust of Pierre Jeannin, by Guillaume Dupre, French, 1618","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Inventory of Art Objects acquired in the Year 1866. <font -u>Inventory of the Objects in the Art Division of the Museum at South Kensington, arranged According to the Dates of their Acquisition.
