For the 2006 revival at the London Palladium, Andrew Lloyd Webber had originally hoped to cast Hollywood actress Scarlett Johannson. This fell through, however, and the first Maria was instead cast through a talent search reality show on BBC television. The promotion for the show resulted in sell-out performances. \r\n\r\nWhen time came for a cast change, Andrew Lloyd-Webber looked to a different form of publicity, casting the actress he intended for the role of Maria in the popular teenage soap opera <i>Hollyoaks</i>. The storyline, over the course of several months, led up to her character auditioning for a part in the musical and winning it, crossing the line between fiction and reality in a somewhat insidious piece of marketing.\r\n\r\nThe poster features the title of the musical in the same font and format as that of the classic 1960s film, recalling the enduring popularity of that film. It also prominently portrays Summer Strallen as the main attraction, with reviews above and below her photograph announcing her as a great new West End star.","physicalDescription":"Poster printed on glossy paper featuring a photograph of Summer Strallen as Maria wearing a yellow broderie anglaise bodice, lying in long grass, with snow-capped mountain peaks in the distance. Across the blue sky at the top of the poster is the quote from Sky News in white upper case lettering: 'DEFINITELY ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS', and below this, in yellow upper and lower case: 'The SOUND of MUSIC'. Below the photograph is the Daily Telegraph quote: 'SUMMER STRALLEN IS A TERRIFIC MARIA' (white lettering) and the name of the theatre: 'LONDON PALLADIUM' in yellow, with the address of the theatre in white.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Dewynters Ltd","id":"A1814"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"Dewynters Ltd","id":"A1814"},"association":{"text":"printer","id":"x30811"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"card","id":"x30344"},{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Offset lithography on card with gloss finish","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Advertising","id":"THES49001"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2009BY0183"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"007","id":"THES345215"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"posters","id":"AAT27221"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2008","earliest":"2008-01-01","latest":"2008-12-31"},"association":{"text":"designed","id":"x29338"},"note":""},{"date":{"text":"2008","earliest":"2008-01-01","latest":"2008-12-31"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Dewynters PLC","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"50.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"31.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'SUMMER STRALLEN IS ONE OF / MY FAVOURITE THINGS' / Sky News","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"The / SOUND of / MUSIC","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"'SUMMER STRALLEN / IS A TERRIFIC MARIA' / The Daily Telegraph","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""},{"content":"","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":" ","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Poster advertising Summer Strallen as Maria Von Trapp in <i>The Sound of Music</i> by Rodgers and Hammerstein, London Palladium Theatre, from 26 February 2008.","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[{"text":"Strallen, Summer","id":"N7579"}],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"mountains","id":"AAT8795"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Poster for The Sound of Music\r\n2008\r\n\r\nAuditioning for the lead role in this West End show took place in the television show How do You Solve a Problem like Maria?
