Decorations in Chinese style were applied in cobalt blue on the finest white tin-glaze ground. In order to achieve a sheen akin to that of Chinese porcelain, Delft potters sprinkled a layer of lead-glaze onto their unfired, decorated pots. In firing, this changed into a transparent and highly glossy cover glaze or 'kwaart'.","physicalDescription":"Bottle, gourd shape, Chinese style floral decoration.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Kocx, Adrianus","id":"A8586"},"association":{"text":"proprietor","id":"AAT25241"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"'Greek A' factory","id":"A6690"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Tin-glazed earthenware with painted decoration","categories":[{"text":"Ceramics","id":"THES48982"},{"text":"Delftware","id":"THES48969"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2008BT0452","2017KE2014"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"145 (VA)","id":"THES49865"},"free":"","case":"6","shelf":"3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Bottle","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Delft","id":"x29383"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1686-1701","earliest":"1686-01-01","latest":"1701-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Bequeathed by George Salting, Esq.","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"31.7","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"15","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'AK' over 'VI.II'","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":"Painted in blue"}],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Double-gourd bottle, tin-glazed earthenware painted with Chinese style floral decoration in blue, made at the factory \"De Grieksche A\", Delft, 1686-1701","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Two almost identical vases with the same mark were at Aronson Antiquairs at Tefaf 2019.
