He also appeared in France, notably at the Chatelet, Paris. A member of a family of entertainers - acrobats, producers of mimes and comic ballets - Charles Lauri Jnr took on roles of cats, dogs, ibis, and of monkeys, traditionally called 'Jacko' in the 19th century. He was described as 'The Garrick of animal mimes'. Charles played many cats in, for example, <i>Puss! Puss!
