He also appeared in France, notably at the Chatelet, Paris. A member of a family of entertainers - acrobats, producers of mimes and comic ballets - Charles Lauri Jnr took on roles of cats, dogs, ibis, and of monkeys, traditionally called 'Jacko' in the 19th century. He was described as 'The Garrick of animal mimes'.
