Cat. 217 for Montefeltro arms, quite close (but reverse) to these. \nTim Wilson, the arms, Montefeltro as used before 1508, suggest Gubbio rather than Deruta, in that Gubbio was part of  the Duchy of Urbino and Deruta was not. This is exactly the class of wares that have been a subject of debate between Giulio Busti, who considers the type Deruta, and Fiocco and Gherardi, who have attributed the group to Gubbio. I would expect Rackham to have said Gubbio (I have not checked) because in general he thought that red lustre was not made at Deruta, but this is not totally true. For this one I would very marginally bet on Gubbio, so \"Gubbio or possibly Deruta? before 1508\". At this date, however, you cannot necessarily say \"Maestro Giorgio\" because you cannot exclude involvement of Giacomo di Paoluccio.","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[{"text":"shields (armor)","id":"AAT36869"},{"text":"coats of arms","id":"AAT126352"}],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"Dish depicting in the middle a shield with the arms of  the Montefeltro, Dukes of Urbino, as used before 1508 \nProbably made in Gubbio, Italy about 1505\nTin-glazed earthenware with lustre decoration\n\n7168-1860 Soulages Collection","date":{"text":"16/07/2008","earliest":"2008-07-16","latest":"2008-07-16"}}],"partNumbers":["7168-1860"],"accessionNumberNum":"7168","accessionNumberPrefix":"","accessionYear":1860,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"Rackham (1977)","id":"THES56972"},"number":"449\u001d\u001d"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":["2019LW2287"],"recordModificationDate":"2025-06-04","recordCreationDate":"2008-07-16","availableToBook":false}}
