There he met Kenneth MacMillan who was looking for a designer for his ballet Danses Concertantes1955. Macmillan commissioned him to provide the set and costumes and began a professional association which produced a dozen ballets and lasted until MacMillan's death in 1992. Georgiadis collaborated with other choreographers: for Rudolf Nureyev he designed one-act ballets and the major works, Romeo and Juliet, The Prince of the Pagodas, Manon and Mayerling. He also created sets and costumes for opera and the theatre. Georgiadis passed on his knowledge by teaching design at the Slade School, working there for 30 years, and he was one of the founders of the Society of British Theatre Designers in 1971.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n","physicalDescription":"Elaborate entrance hall in shades of blue, turquoise and apricot, decorated with stylized angel figures.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Georgiadis, Nicholas","id":"A5987"},"association":{"text":"designers","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"watercolour","id":"x33202"},{"text":"gouache","id":"AAT70114"},{"text":"paper","id":"x30308"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painting (image-making)","id":"AAT54216"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Watercolour and gouache on paper","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Dance","id":"THES252984"},{"text":"Designs","id":"THES48968"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES356672"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"set design","id":"THES284798"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1955","earliest":"1955-01-01","latest":"1955-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the Arts Council of Great Britain","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Set design by Nicholas Georgiadis for the entrance in Kenneth MacMillan's ballet, Danses concertantes, Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet, Sadler's Wells, 1955","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[{"text":"\n","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null}}],"partNumbers":["S.1901-1986"],"accessionNumberNum":"1901","accessionNumberPrefix":"S","accessionYear":1986,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-19","recordCreationDate":"2021-03-29","availableToBook":true}}
