The inscription records its presentation to Captain William Wilson by the East India Company in celebration of his unusual journey to China and thereby evincing that navigation to be practicable at any season of the year. It was made by the English medallist Richard Yeo and dates from 1760. \nYeo (circa 1720-died 1779) was a British medallist and engraver to the Royal Mint. He came to fame, when he produced the official medal for the battle of Culloden in 1746. In 1749, he was appointed assistant engraver to the Royal Mint, and in 1775 he succeeded John Sigismund Tanner as Chief Engraver and held this role until his death in 1779. He was one of the foundation members of the Royal Academy, to whose first two exhibitions he was a contributor in 1769 and 1770.
