Right-hand side is incomplete: slender, double warp cord oversewn in red wool, the two edges then joined by herringbone oversewing in red wool.\r\n\r\nEND FINISH;  lower end is incomplete: narrow band of plain weave with red weft, folded and joined by herringbone oversewing in red wool.  Upper end has 2.5 cms. maximum of plain weave first with red weft and then with cream; turned and stitched down.  A cord of red wool (see left-hand side finish) attached along edge of fold and forming second side of flap.\r\n\r\nDESIGN: field: a cream ground; along the original sides is a band of dark blue or dark red from which rises a long horned stem with zigzag 'branches'.  Along the lower and upper sides is a shorter figure ending in larger horns.  There are small triangles within the bigger terminals; on dark blue figures they are in dark pink silk and also decorate the dark blue stems.\r\n\r\nMain border has a cream ground with large, angular S motifs in dark red, red, dark green and dark blue which have squared centres linked by a central pole.\r\n\r\nThe inner and outer borders have a cream ground with linked stylised dark red and red flowerheads except on the lower borders where they are larger, separate and alternate between dark red and dark blue.\r\n\r\nThe back is of plain weave with a cream weft but the pile continues for 3 cms. maximum around the edge.
