They were hand-painted in watercolour and decorated with scraps of material and tinsel additions. They were popular during the first half of the 19th century and were considered an adult, rather than a child's hobby. By the 1830s it was possible to buy the tinsel, leather and feather ornaments to go with each image.","physicalDescription":"Print of Madame Auriol as Columbine, dancing, with her left hand above her head, her right hand in front of her at chest height, her right leg in front of her left. The image is titled in print: 'MADAME AURIOL AS COLUMBINE' '46'. The image of Madame Auriol dancing in front of a small temple-like building and a fountain has been coloured, stuck to a card backing, decorated with scraps of cloth and tinsel by an amateur, and dated in ink '1851'.","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Redington, John","id":"A21504"},"association":{"text":"printer","id":"x30811"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"paper (fiber product)","id":"AAT14109"},{"text":"printing ink","id":"AAT187371"},{"text":"card","id":"x30344"},{"text":"fabric","id":"THES345037"},{"text":"tinsel","id":"AAT183933"}],"techniques":[{"text":"printing","id":"AAT53319"},{"text":"painting","id":"AAT53343"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Printed and painted paper with fabric and tinsel additions","categories":[{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"},{"text":"Prints","id":"THES48903"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2016JE8616"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"005","id":"THES356608"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"tinsel print","id":"AAT41273"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"London","id":"x28980"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"c.1851","earliest":"1846-01-01","latest":"1855-12-31"},"association":{"text":"printed","id":"AAT53319"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"S.4085-2009","id":"O1152156"},"association":"Object"}],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"23.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"21.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"top width","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"21.2","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"bottom width","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Madam Auriol as Columbine.
