It was made by the workshop of Severo Calzetta, which used moulds to cast several versions of the same bronze. Severo's works were therefore owned by many collectors, including Isabella d'Este, Marquise of Mantua.\r\n\r\nSevero da Ravenna or Severo di Domenico Calzetta da Ravenna was an Italian sculptor, active ca 1496, who died ca. 1543. His father was probably a sculptor and he may have been related to the two painters of the same name working in the circle of Mantegna in Padua: Pietro Calzetta and Francesco Calzetta. Severo might have divided his time between Padua, Ferrara and Ravenna, where he was first recorded in 1496.","physicalDescription":"Statuette of a boy extracting a thorn from his foot.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Severo da Ravenna","id":"A11267"},"association":{"text":"workshop of","id":"x28708"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"bronze","id":"AAT10957"}],"techniques":[{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bronze","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2009CD9092","2009CD9094","2009CD9093","2009CD9091","2019LK4248","2019LK4227"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"64","id":"THES49735"},"free":"","case":"SS3","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES395178"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Statuette the spinario","id":""}],[{"text":"Base","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Padua","id":"x29504"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"},{"place":{"text":"Ravenna","id":"x32642"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":"possibly"}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1510-1530","earliest":"1510-01-01","latest":"1530-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"18.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"7.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"12.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Weight","value":"1.56","unit":"kg","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"Measured for the Medieval and Renaissance Galleries","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Adapted from a famous antique bronze now in the Musei Capitolini, Rome, this figure was probably part of an inkstand.
