This sequence is itself probably based on single leaf woodcuts of about 1430.\r\n\r\nThe iconographic scheme seen here seems to have been widely popular in Germany throughout the 15th century and the early 16th centuries, and was used as early as 1443 for the silver relief of The Annunciation on the right wing of a triptych in the church of Mariapfarr in the Salzburg district.","physicalDescription":"The Virgin leans in front of a lectern and a vase of lilies in a small vaulted chapel with two open arches. Her head is inclined towards the kneeling angel at the entrance who holds a scroll inscribed with the letter A (for Ave Maria) in his left hand. The secluded scene is separated from a garden with blossoming flowers by a crenellated wall in which is a closed door. The bust of God the Father is shown in the upper left corner with hands clasped together surrounded by ribbon-like clouds. From his mouth emenate three rays of light from which the dove descends towards the Virgin. The cast is blurred and rubbed in some areas. A circular hole has been drilled at the top.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"bronze","id":"AAT10957"}],"techniques":[{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bronze","categories":[{"text":"Christianity","id":"THES48978"},{"text":"Religion","id":"THES48900"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Plaques & Plaquettes","id":"THES49031"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2026PT9020","2019LX1546"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"021","id":"THES395673"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Plaquette the annunciation","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Germany","id":"x28873"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"probably ca. 1500","earliest":"1495-01-01","latest":"1504-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"12.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"9.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Depth","value":"0.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"The relief is related to a number of replicas in bronze, terracotta and cartapesta of different sizes, which have all been associated with a series of eight rectangular reliefs in Solnhofen stone in the Städtische Kunstsammlungen in Augsburg.
