The awards are decided by nominations and voting by 60 members of the dance section of the Critics' Circle.\n\nRobert Cohan (1925-2021) was a pioneer of the teaching of contemporary dance and had a significant influence on the  development of contemporary dance in the UK. He was the first Artistic Director of the Contemporary Dance Trust and, as such, was the founding Artistic Director of The Place, London Contemporary Dance School and London Contemporary Dance Theatre (LCDT).
