Courthope had travelled to Lisbon to invest the Portuguese king with the insignia of the Order of the Garter.  Minerva was the Roman goddess of war and warriors.\r\n\r\nSir Arthur Gilbert and his wife Rosalinde formed one of the world's great decorative art collections, including silver, mosaics, enamelled portrait miniatures and gold boxes.
