This box is made of rock crystal, mounted in pierced and engraved gold resembling loosely woven basketwork. \r\n\r\nGabriel-Raoul Morel was noted for working in a variety of materials. A number of boxes bearing his mark have links to the Napoleonic court, suggesting that he may have been an official supplier.\r\n\r\nSir Arthur Gilbert and his wife Rosalinde formed one of the world’s great decorative art collections, including silver, mosaics, enamelled portrait miniatures and gold boxes.
