Her developpes, her arabesques, her attitudes, her slow turns are a feast for the gods. To the casual observer Legat is all this time doing nothing – just holding her; but he is doing this “nothing” as only a master could do it, and the quality of his art hides the wonders of his technique. Apart from the adage, Mademoiselle is a trifle disappointing. Her elevation is not exhilarating, and her personality is featureless.\n\r\nThis provoked heated correspondence by Legat in the journal. \r\n\r\nAfter a successful stage career Nicolayeva continued her husband’s work, teaching and establishing the Legat School in Kent.\r\n\r\n","physicalDescription":"Mounted photograph, signed on the mount, showing a ballerina in tutu and headband.
