She joined Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes when it reformed in 1915 and remained with the company until 1926, in that time she rose from corps de ballet to ballerina. She danced a few performances of Aurora in The Sleeping Princess, in which she was also notable as the Carnation Fairy, and was the ‘garçonne’ in Les Biches (1924) and Les Matelots (1925). She then embarked on a freelance career, dancing with Anton Dolin, leading her own company and, between 1931-1935, was ballerina of the Lithuanian State Opera Ballet which brought Raymonda as a complete ballet to London for the first time in 1935. Raymonda was staged for the Lithuenian Ballet by Nemchinova’s first husband, Nicolas Zverev, but it disappointed British audiences who also questioned how much of Marius Petipa’s original choreography survived.","physicalDescription":"Half length photograph of a ballerina in a tutu with heraldic ermine decoration on the bodice and detached lamé sleeves.
