Idzikowski as the King of the Dandys, seen in the centre of this photograph, was praised by Vera Bowen as ‘perfect as ever in countless jumps and pirouettes’. Gibson MacCormack wrote in the Dancing Times ‘Not even the excellent dancing of Massine, Idzikowski, and that irrepressible ‘gamine’ Lopokova, could redeem such an effort. It was a pity to see Idzikowski’s superb technique wasted on so poor a show. His dazzling cabrioles and entrechats caused gasps of delight from those who love grace and perfect finish in an artist.'\n\r\nLe Beau Danube, to music by Johann Strauss, was one of a series of light-heated ballets choreographed by Massine to Strauss music in the 1920s. It was reworked and tightened for Colonel de Basil’s Ballet Russe in 1933 when it became a great success.\r\n","physicalDescription":"The photograph shows dancers in the Prater in the second scene, with a set after Constantin Guys painted by the Polunins.
