Truman (see reference below) had suggested that the panels were probably German, imported to France and mounted by Parisian goldsmiths, while this box could be an exception mounted in Germany. Instead, the bulbous incrustations overall and the enamelling of the peacock feathers would suggest a much later production in the 1800s inspired by earlier examples.\r\n\r\nSir Arthur Gilbert and his wife Rosalinde formed one of the world's great decorative art collections, including silver, mosaics, enamelled portrait miniatures and gold boxes.
