Perhaps it was this one. \n\nMoglia was commissioned by the Vatican to create a number of diplomatic gifts, notably a portrait of Pope Gregory XVI (1831-46), now at the Hermitage in St Petersburg, and two pictures presented by Pope Pius IX to Napoleon III on his son's christening in 1856, now at the Château de Compiègne in France. \n\nThe term 'micromosaic' is used to describe mosaics made of the smallest glass pieces. Some micromosaics contain more than 5000 pieces per square inch. The earliest attempts at micromosaic revealed visible joins between the pieces (known as tesserae) and a lack of perspective. Later artists such as Antonio Aguatti made huge advances in micromosaic technique, resulting in renderings that were truer to life. Glass micromosaic technique developed in the 18th century, in the Vatican Mosaic Workshop in Rome, where they still undertake restoration work today. \n\nSir Arthur Gilbert and his wife Rosalinde formed one of the world's great decorative art collections, including silver, mosaics, enamelled portrait miniatures and gold boxes. Arthur Gilbert donated his extraordinary collection to Britain in 1996.","physicalDescription":"Oval brooch with Madonna del dito in a pierced leaf and ribbon frame set with gems.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Moglia, Luigi","id":"A22450"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"AAT251917"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"mosaic glass","id":"AAT260731"},{"text":"brass (alloy)","id":"AAT10946"},{"text":"gold","id":"AAT11021"},{"text":"garnet","id":"AAT11097"},{"text":"turquoise","id":"AAT11164"}],"techniques":[{"text":"micromosaic","id":"x42499"},{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"},{"text":"gilding","id":"AAT53789"},{"text":"setting","id":"x42734"},{"text":"setting","id":"x42734"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Mosaic, gilt brass and set garnets and turquoise","categories":[{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"},{"text":"Jewellery","id":"THES48930"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2008BW3438","2008BW3449","2018KU3507","2018KV4550"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"020","id":"THES404899"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"brooch","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Rome","id":"x29106"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"mid 19th century","earliest":"1825-01-01","latest":"1875-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection on loan to the Victoria and Albert Museum, London","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Length","value":"4.4","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"13/03/2020","earliest":"2020-03-13","latest":"2020-03-13"},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"3.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"13/03/2020","earliest":"2020-03-13","latest":"2020-03-13"},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"","value":"","unit":"","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"","value":"","unit":"","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"","value":"","unit":"","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Provenance: Antique Lovers Coterie, London.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Oval brooch with Madonna del dito in a pierced leaf and ribbon frame set with gems.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Hillier, Bevis.
