His mission was to acquire contemporary objects in order to provide a survey of what was then being produced by craftsmen and women across the Indian subcontinent. This piece was supposedly made in Bombay, was described as '19th century', and cost £17 15s 6d. The form of the ornament is ancient, and representations of similar jewellery in Indian sculpture suggest that it was made in many regions across the centuries. Other related wrist ornaments in the V&A show that the materials used could include silver and base metals.","physicalDescription":"The decorative features of this armlet are composed of applied wire and moulded gold projecting cones.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Unknown","id":"A1848"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"gold","id":"AAT11021"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Sheet gold with applied bands of coiled wires, small flat discs, and moulded gold projecting cones.","categories":[{"text":"Jewellery","id":"THES48930"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SSEA","id":"THES48598"},"images":["2006AV2271"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"011","id":"THES394692"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Bracelet","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Bombay","id":"x30829"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"19th century","earliest":"1800-01-01","latest":"1900-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"7.3","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"6.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Bought for the museum by Caspar Purdon Clarke on his purchasing mission to India in 1881-2.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Armlet in sheet gold with applied bands of moulded gold projecting cones, wirework and other elements, Bombay 19th century.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Susan Stronge, Nima Smith, and J.C.
