It is an exposé of the artist's intense interest in natural phenomena.  She lovingly examines her subject with deep concentration and insight into detail.  The small copper and bronze elements provide colour and texture.","physicalDescription":"The server represents a partially blocked stream whose surface (the handle) is covered with botanic litter, leaves, flowers etc.  The largest leaf, at the rear, is moulded on a pomegranate.  A small carnelian cabochon is hidden under a round, fluted flower;  a black pearl is centred on a flower element and a quartz crystal with a pyrite inclusion is almost hidden in a folded copper leaf.  Bronze elements include a collar around a cast silver piece, and a flower or cone.  The surfaces have been chased, textured and oxidised.  The hollow conical boss is the constriction through which the stream emerges and flows over a chased and repoussé stony surface made from 14 gauge sheet;  a reversed triangular blade shape is thereby created and broadens as the flow spreads out.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Corwin, Nancy Megan","id":"A22672"},"association":{"text":"designer and maker","id":"x34662"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"silver","id":"AAT11029"},{"text":"copper","id":"AAT11020"},{"text":"bronze","id":"AAT10957"},{"text":"carnelian","id":"AAT133223"},{"text":"pearl","id":"AAT11827"},{"text":"quartz","id":"AAT11132"}],"techniques":[{"text":"chasing","id":"AAT54016"},{"text":"oxidizing","id":"AAT220235"},{"text":"stone setting","id":"x34787"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Silver, copper and bronze, carnelian, black pearl and quartz; the silver chased, textured and oxidised","categories":[{"text":"Eating","id":"THES48963"},{"text":"Metalwork","id":"THES48920"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"MET","id":"THES48599"},"images":["2023NL3736","2023NJ5736","2006AY6102"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"018","id":"THES408709"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Server","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Seattle","id":"x29132"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2003","earliest":"2003-01-01","latest":"2003-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by the American Friends of the V&A through the generosity of Professor B. Each artist craftsman has responded to the familiar functional form of the slice in an individual way, producing an astonishingly diverse range of interpretations.  Each piece becomes an enchanting, decorative work of art. Professor Rabinovitch established a close rapport with each artist, always encouraging a freedom of creative expression.  The response of these silversmiths has been not only to be strikingly imaginative but also to honour him by giving him their best work.\r\n\r\nThis collection is testimony to the significant contribution that one individual can make to supporting the craft of silversmithing.  After commissioning work from some of the most illustrious names in British and North American silversmithing, Professor Rabinovitch has very generously donated his entire collection to the Victoria and Albert Museum, through the American Friends of the V&A.","date":{"text":"2005","earliest":"2005-01-01","latest":"2005-12-31"}}],"partNumbers":["M.95-2008"],"accessionNumberNum":"95","accessionNumberPrefix":"M","accessionYear":2008,"otherNumbers":[{"type":{"text":"previous loan number","id":"THES50326"},"number":"LOAN:AMERICANFRIENDS.122-2005"}],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-06-05","recordCreationDate":"2008-05-12","availableToBook":true}}
