The obverse of this medal represents Emilla Pio, wife of Antonio da Montefeltro (d. 1538) and the reverse shows a pyramid and cinerary urn.\n\nFiorentino was an Italian sculptor. Like his collaborator Bertoldo di Giovanni, he may have started his working life as a servant in the house of Lorenzo de’ Medici. Adriano’s best-known bronze is the statuette of Bellerophon and Pegasus (now in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna).","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Fiorentino, Adriano","id":"A11939"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"bronze","id":"AAT10957"}],"techniques":[{"text":"casting","id":"AAT53104"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bronze","categories":[{"text":"Coins & Medals","id":"THES48974"},{"text":"Portraits","id":"THES48906"},{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":["2015HT7719","2015HT7718"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"044","id":"THES395743"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Medal","id":"AAT46025"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Florence","id":"x28848"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"late 15th century","earliest":"1450-01-01","latest":"1500-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"3.25","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"'CASTIS CINERIBUS''","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Bought from the Soulages Collection in 1865, for £3.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Medal, bronze, bust of Emilla Pio and a pyramid, Italy, Florentine, by Adriano Fiorentino, late 15th century","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Inventory of Art Objects acquired in the Year 1865. <font -u>Inventory of the Objects in the Art Division of the Museum at South Kensington, arranged According to the Dates of their Acquisition.
