He achieves this by firing three times: high-temperature bisque, lower temperature glost (1050°C), and a third firing in an improvised outdoor gas kiln. At 500°C the burners are turned off and the kiln is filled with cereal chaff and sealed. The burning chaff causes irregular carbon-impregnation of the clay body and uneven reduction and oxidation of the metal oxides in the glaze.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Hashimoto, Tomonari","id":"AUTH357180"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Stoneware","id":"x30197"},{"text":"Glaze","id":"AAT15091"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Hand-built","id":"x30324"},{"text":"glazed","id":"AAT53914"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"","categories":[],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"EAS","id":"THES48596"},"images":["2021MX3179"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES398865"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""},{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES398865"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"AAT47090"}],[{"text":"Storage box","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Shigaraki","id":"x32492"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"2020","earliest":"2020-01-01","latest":"2020-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"27","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"10/03/2020","earliest":"2020-03-10","latest":"2020-03-10"},"part":"","note":"Dimension supplied by vendor; sphere"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Untitled sculpture in the form of a sphere, hand-built stoneware with metal oxide glaze, 2020, by Hashimoto Tomonari (1990-), Shigaraki\r\nJapan, modern crafts, studio, ceramics","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["FE.65:1-2021","FE.65:2-2021"],"accessionNumberNum":"65","accessionNumberPrefix":"FE","accessionYear":2021,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-12-10","recordCreationDate":"2020-03-10","availableToBook":true}}
