She draws on wide-ranging ideas and visual connections, which emerge from her ‘curiosity and fascination with the subject of jewellery’. \n\nThis circular brooch, hand-carved from a block of lapis lazuli and set with twelve gold stars, evokes the flag of the European Union. Its form deliberately mirrors that of a pin badge - a type described by the artist as ‘traditionally of the moment, cheap and quick to make and considered throwaway, lasting only as long as necessary to get the message across’. Of the brooch's inspiration she has written ‘The rapidly changing political and social landscape in Britain since the 2016 EU Referendum dominated my thoughts and, through the cathartic nature of stone grinding, mixed emotions found some solace and release in the DELAYED REACTIONS series of work’.","physicalDescription":"A smooth, circular disc of lapis lazuli set with a cluster of inlaid gold stars at the lower edge.
