In September 1925 the Illustrated London News attributed this to changing hairstyles, commenting 'As the fashion for \"Eton\" cropped heads grows daily, long, decorative ear-rings are becoming increasingly fashionable.' However many jewellers felt that the new short hair was not good for business - as Queen magazine had reported a few months earlier, now 'no ornament is worn in the hair for dances'.
