The two took over the Shinner's Bridge Pottery at Dartington in Devon, southwest England, in 1947. The following year Haile died in a car accident, leaving de Trey to continue alone. Her earlier productions were domestic wares, either in slip-decorated or tin-glazed earthenware. These were produced in a production pottery that employed several people and established a regular apprentice scheme. Stoneware was produced at the pottery from the mid-1950s.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"de Trey, Marianne","id":"A2672"},"association":{"text":"maker","id":"x40240"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Shinner's Bridge Pottery","id":"A9540"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Stoneware","id":"x30197"}],"techniques":[],"materialsAndTechniques":"Stoneware, with cut decoration through an oatmeal glaze","categories":[{"text":"Studio Pottery","id":"THES48889"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2009CC4705","2006AN7638"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"142","id":"THES49868"},"free":"","case":"3","shelf":"3","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Bowl","id":"x47829"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Dartington","id":"x34908"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1961","earliest":"1961-01-01","latest":"1961-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"scallop shell seal, impressed","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"Acquisition details: Craft Centre of Great Britain\r\n\r\nRF number: 61/1689","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Bowl, stoneware, with cut decoration through an oatmeal glaze.","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"Watson, Oliver. <i>British Studio Pottery : the Victoria and Albert Museum Collection</i>, Oxford : Phaidon, Christie's, in association with the Victoria and Albert Museum, 1990","id":"AUTH351364"},"details":"","free":""}],"production":"Pottery: Shinners Bridge Pottery, Dartington","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["CIRC.255A-1961"],"accessionNumberNum":"255","accessionNumberPrefix":"CIRC","accessionYear":1961,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-09","recordCreationDate":"2020-02-24","availableToBook":false}}
