Balakjian was Freud’s printer from 1985 and worked closely with him on the production of his etchings.\n\nThe sitter here is Dr Michael Gormley (b.1945), who was Freud's physician. This is one of the rare instances where Freud made only a etched portrait; there is no painting of this sittter. The plate was etched, and proofed by Paul Dewis at London Print Studio, and then reproofed and printed by Marc Balakjian at Studio Prints.
