Balakjian was Freud’s printer from 1985 and worked closely with him on the production of his etchings.\n\nThis proof of the first state shows the figure's left arm, bent at the elbow, which was then masked out with pastel by the artist in a second copy of the proof of the first state (E.336-2020). The arm does not apear in the published edtion (see cancellation proof E.337-2020). The plate was bitten and proofed at Studio Prints on 25 February 1988.
