The clustered flower heads and arabesque decoration are characteristic of French luxury objects of the time. Follot was a French furniture designer whose first pieces were in the Art Nouveau style. He adapted his work to suit the tastes of the 1920s. In 1923 he became director of the design studio Pomone, which was attached to the Paris department store Au Bon Marché. In 1928 he collaborated with Serge Chermayeff (1901-1996) to design some of the first French Art Deco furniture.
