Many fine hangings were woven to the designs of contemporary artists. Noemi Ferenczy was born into a family of eminent artists and studied tapestry weaving at the Gobelins in Paris.  She combined considerable artistic talent with weaving skills and her work is an important link between the European folk tradition of tapestries and the modern tapestries made by today's artist-weavers.","physicalDescription":"Eight miniature figures of robed women perch on branches of a tree amidst dense orange and red leaves.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Ferenczy, Noemi","id":"A2147"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"AAT25190"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"wool (textile)","id":"AAT243430"}],"techniques":[{"text":"tapestry","id":"AAT61981"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Tapestry-woven in wool","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"},{"text":"Tapestry","id":"THES48887"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"none","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"003","id":"THES325842"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Tapestry","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Hungary","id":"x28910"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1920","earliest":"1915-01-01","latest":"1924-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Presented by Art Fund","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Weight","value":"18.5","unit":"kg","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":"Weight of object, roller and storage pole."},{"dimension":"Width","value":"1506","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"28/06/2018","earliest":"2018-06-28","latest":"2018-06-28"},"part":"Top","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"1530","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"28/06/2018","earliest":"2018-06-28","latest":"2018-06-28"},"part":"Bottom","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"2045","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"28/06/2018","earliest":"2018-06-28","latest":"2018-06-28"},"part":"Proper right","note":""},{"dimension":"Length","value":"2085","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"28/06/2018","earliest":"2018-06-28","latest":"2018-06-28"},"part":"Proper left","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"1920c, Hungarian; Ferenczy, Naomi. \"Sisterhood\"","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Kinchin, Juliet. <i>In the Eye of the Storm: Lili Markus and Stories of Hungarian Crafts, Design and Architecture, 1930-1960</i> (with contributions by Thomas A Markus and Eva Horanyi).Glasgow: University of Strathclyde, 2008, pp. 42-43."}],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["T.41-1942"],"accessionNumberNum":"41","accessionNumberPrefix":"T","accessionYear":1942,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-05-20","recordCreationDate":"1999-12-15","availableToBook":true}}
