The obverse of this medal represents Clementine, Princess Sobieski, wife of the Old Pretender James Stuart. The reverse shows Clementine Sobieski in a chariot, the city of Rome and a departing ship in the background. \n\nThe Hamerani's were an important family of coin engravers and medallists of Bavarian origin. The medals are notable especially for their historical value documenting Rome and its monuments at that time.","physicalDescription":"","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Hamerani, Ottone","id":"A22528"},"association":{"text":"medallist","id":"AAT25337"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"bronze","id":"AAT10957"}],"techniques":[{"text":"striking","id":"AAT206846"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Bronze","categories":[{"text":"Sculpture","id":"THES48896"},{"text":"Coins & Medals","id":"THES48974"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"SCP","id":"THES48600"},"images":[],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"043","id":"THES395745"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Medal","id":"AAT46025"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""},{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Italy","id":"x28927"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"ca. 1719","earliest":"1714-01-01","latest":"1723-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"1.875","unit":"in","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Bought for £5 5s in 1865.","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Medal, bronze, Clementine Sobieski, by Ottone Hamerani, Italy (Rome), ca. 1719","bibliographicReferences":[{"reference":{"text":"","id":""},"details":"","free":"Inventory of Art Objects acquired in the Year 1865. <font -u>Inventory of the Objects in the Art Division of the Museum at South Kensington, arranged According to the Dates of their Acquisition.
