Made from lustrous white satin, it is delicately embroidered with soft green bamboo leaves, sparsely scattered across the surface to evoke the serenity of an ink painting. Capped sleeves and sheer organza panels at the shoulders and upper back allow ease of movement and ventilation, making the design particularly suited to formal summer occasions.\n\r\nGuo and Xu are best known for their contemporary reinterpretations of the traditional Chinese qipao, blending heritage textile techniques with modern tailoring. Both trained in fashion design in China, with Xu furthering his studies at Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion. In 2002 they established the Guo Xu qipao atelier in Shanghai, drawing inspiration from their archive of over 300 vintage qipaos dating from the late 19th century to the 1940s.\n\r\nTheir designs celebrate the artistry of Chinese silk weaving and Suzhou embroidery. Working closely with textile manufacturers in Suzhou and Hangzhou, they develop bespoke silks and gauzes reminiscent of those once woven for the Qing court. Their qipaos retain traditional construction methods—such as seamless shoulders and hand-made silk frog buttons—while expressing a refined modern sensibility.\n","physicalDescription":"<i>Qipao</i> of white satin-weave silk, embroidered with sprigs of bamboo in shades of green silk.
