Moulds are often made from an original shape in clay or a model of wax or carved wood. There are 3 stages to the making of a mould: First, the original model is used to make a case mould, then the case mould is used to make a block mould - a replica of the original object. The block mould can then be used to make many working moulds, from which the work is cast.
