The early 5th-century ‘Saturnalia’, written in the early 5th century AD, celebrated all aspects of Roman culture and therefore greatly appealed to humanists. It took the form of dialogues between guests at banquets held during the Saturnalia – winter festivities honouring the god Saturn.
