He invited Kenneth MacMillan to present his wistfully romantic Solitaire, subtitled 'a game for one', which was created for Sadler’s Wells Theatre Ballet in 1956 to music by Malcolm Arnold. but was responsible for the other three ballets himself.\n\nDivertimento was a more abstract reworking of Cranko's 1950 Pastorale to music by Mozart, while the other two ballets were entirely new. Intermezzo was set in a ballet studio where the dancers performed to the record 'Latin American' by George Shearing and Peggy Lee, while Familienalbum was a new version of Façade by William Walton. This was inevitably a series of sketches but framed as if coming from a family photograph album.\n\r\nPerformances were given at 16, 18 and 24 March 1961 at 8pm, exactly eight weeks after the start of his contract with Stuttgart.\n\nThe poster was reproduced in Jennifer Hawkins Opie, Richard Beer: Art & Life, 2019, pp.42-43.","physicalDescription":"Poster in black and pink on white showing a dancer in an elaborate hat with a fan and a lapdog against a background of a pyramid and palm trees.
