So his background was very different from other watercolour painters. But his career developed along more familiar lines: he became President of the Old Watercolour Society, and exhibited history and sporting subjects, and sometimes genre scenes with a Scottish flavour. In this work, he takes up the popular genre of domestic/historical subject matter.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"John Frederick Tayler","id":"A21782"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"watercolour","id":"AAT15045"}],"techniques":[{"text":"painting","id":"AAT54216"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Watercolour","categories":[{"text":"Paintings","id":"THES48917"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2006BH7761","2006AN6812"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"B","id":"THES304949"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"water-colours","id":"AAT78925"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"England","id":"x28826"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1830-1889","earliest":"1830-01-01","latest":"1889-12-31"},"association":{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Ellison Gift","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"72.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"framed","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"60","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"framed","note":""},{"dimension":"Height","value":"50.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"37.8","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Watercolour by John Frederick Tayler entitled 'The Page-in-Waiting'.
