The vase was made during the period of production led by Vilmos Zsolnay (son of the founder Miklos Zsolnay) at their factory in Pecs, Hungary. Zsolnay is best known for its production of art pottery with mottled lustre glazes from 1900 onwards, after Vilmos’ death, however this vase is a strong example of the factory's earlier output, in a historicist style with colourful majolica glazes.
