This photograph shows the <i>Harmandir </i>(Golden Temple) in the centre of the <i>Sarovar,</i> or the holy pool of immortal nectar. On the south-east side of the shrine under an awning, the steps known as <i>Har ki Pauri</i> lead into the water. The causeway on the right-hand side guides the eye to the gateway known as the <i>Darshani Deori</i>. Behind the gateway and at the very edge of the picture is the dome of the <i>Akal Takht</i>, the throne of the timeless one. The two flagstaffs rising above the domes are <i>Nishan Sahib</i>: these can be seen from afar and signal the presence of a Sikh temple to the faithful.
