As part of his distinctive technique, he applies multiple layers of watercolour, then scrapes details away with an oil brush. For this painting, Panchal\r\nwas inspired by a <i>padabhishek</i> ceremony he witnessed in Mumbai, where a Jain monk was initiated as an <i>acharya</i>, the highest monastic rank.
