The large number of drawings made by him on these two trips range from atmospheric wash studies of river and sky to highly detailed figure compositions illustrating the folk-life of Rumania. The majority are still in Rumania, in the Muzeul de arta al Republich Socialiste Romania. This lively drawing, though rapidly executed, packs in much visual information. It focuses on the gipsies and their distinctive cart with its curious axle and springing arrangement, and includes in the foreground a girl carrying an unusually turned and carved wooden water-pot.","physicalDescription":"Watercolour drawing","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Preziosi, Aloysius Rosarius Amadeus Raymondus Andreas (5th Count Preziosi)","id":"A21529"},"association":{"text":"painter (artist)","id":"AAT25136"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"watercolour","id":"x33202"}],"techniques":[{"text":"watercolour drawing","id":"x37878"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Pencil and watercolour, on stiff paper","categories":[{"text":"Paintings","id":"THES48917"},{"text":"Children & Childhood","id":"THES48980"},{"text":"Dolls & Toys","id":"THES48967"},{"text":"Interiors","id":"THES48933"},{"text":"Toy vehicles","id":"THES274369"},{"text":"Play","id":"THES274366"},{"text":"Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Heritage","id":"THES379078"}],"styles":[{"text":"Maltese School","id":"x41235"},{"text":"Orientalism","id":"x31272"}],"collectionCode":{"text":"PDP","id":"THES48595"},"images":["2008BU1223"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"LVLD","id":"THES49658"},"free":"","case":"SC","shelf":"29","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"watercolour","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Romania","id":"x29763"},"association":{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1869","earliest":"1869-01-01","latest":"1869-12-31"},"association":{"text":"painted","id":"x30138"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Purchased with the assistance of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, Art Fund, Shell International and the Friends of the V&A","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"34.5","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Width","value":"53.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[{"content":"Signed, inscribed and dated Preziosi Bucharest '69.","inscriber":{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""}},"date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"description":"","interpretation":"","language":"","medium":"","method":"","position":"","script":"","translation":"","transliteration":"","type":"","note":""}],"objectHistory":"According to Rodney Searight: - `Bt at Bonhams, Sept. 1968, £13'.","historicalContext":"One of many drawings made by the artist during his visits to Romania in 1868 and 1869.
