Kensington, June 1978 [(218)] (with another)  £25 '.","historicalContext":"`The Virgin's Tree - Mataria's only surviving claim to fame - is an ancient sycamore under which, according to legend, the Virgin and Child rested during the Flight to Egypt.  The tree was in fact planted in 1672, or thereabouts.  It was badly damaged in 1906, but a shoot still flourished.' (Searight Archive). For other images of the tree, see lithograph by L.
