This piece was influenced by Kente cloths from Ghana and the effect was obtained from a photocopied image of folded cloth. Tightly twisted yarns were used in weaving causing the fabric to shrink in finishing. This gives the panel its characteristic elastic appearance and soft drape.","physicalDescription":"Loom-width of jacquard woven cotton and polyester.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Arai, Junichi","id":"A13491"},"association":{"text":"designer","id":"x36960"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"NUNO Corporation","id":"A3595"},"association":{"text":"designed for","id":"x41471"},"note":""},{"name":{"text":"NUNO Corporation","id":"A3595"},"association":{"text":"manufacturer","id":"x33306"},"note":""}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"cotton fibre","id":"AAT183670"},{"text":"polyester","id":"AAT14546"}],"techniques":[{"text":"jacquard weaving","id":"x40508"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Jacquard woven cotton and polyester","categories":[{"text":"Textiles","id":"THES48885"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&F","id":"THES48601"},"images":["2012FG7623","2025PF6861","2025PF6860","2025PF6862","2008BT4290"],"imageResolution":"low","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"002","id":"THES404286"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Loom-width","id":""}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Japan","id":"x29399"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1981","earliest":"1981-01-01","latest":"1981-12-31"},"association":{"text":"made","id":"x28654"},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[],"creditLine":"Given by Sudo Reiko","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Width","value":"930","unit":"mm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"06/06/2025","earliest":"2025-06-06","latest":"2025-06-06"},"part":"Width, though varies because of stretch","note":"Measured by Textile Conservation"}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"Registered File number 1988/305.\r\nNUNO was founded in 1984 as a commercial venture dealing with all stages of textile creation: planning designing, manufacturing and sales.
