It is here that he photographed the dragon tree, or Dracaena draco, native to the islands. It is one of the most unusual varieties of tree, a long-leaved evergreen with stout arms and sword-shaped leaves. If the bark is cut, it ‘bleeds’ crimson sap, likened in folklore to the blood of dragons, hence its popular name.","physicalDescription":"A mounted black and white photographic print depicting a close up view of a mass of branches from the popularly known 'dragon tree'.
