Her elder sister, Ida Kirkpatrick, was also a successful artist. As adults, the sisters lived together and shared a studio, which they named ‘The Gables’. The fishing town of Brixham, with its colourful fishing port and distinctive wooden boats with red sails, provided abundant inspiration. These two prints are from a set of eight that reveal the creative process behind Kirkpatrick’s woodcut technique. To make her prints, she built up images without outlines using coloured shapes.
