The first was Holmegaard, which used mostly local peat to fire the furnaces. Production was initially focused on dark glass bottles and utilitarian glass. However the introduction of German and Bohemian workers to the Holmegaard glassworks in 1835 prompted the manufacture of colourless tableglass and the use of engraving as a simle yet effective decorative technique, as seen here. The glass is unmarked, but the patterns of oak leaves and vine leaves are known to have been produced by the Holmegaard, Conradsminde (1834-1857) and Mylenberg (1852-1863) glassworks.","physicalDescription":"Drinking glass with engraved decoration of scrolling vine leaves and grapes","artistMakerPerson":[],"artistMakerOrganisations":[{"name":{"text":"Holmegaard","id":"A1161"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":"possibly made by"},{"name":{"text":"","id":""},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":"possibly made by Conradsminde or Mylenberg Glassworks"}],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"Glass","id":"AAT10797"}],"techniques":[{"text":"Engraved","id":"AAT53829"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Glass, engraved","categories":[{"text":"Glass","id":"THES48946"},{"text":"Drinking","id":"THES48965"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"CER","id":"THES48594"},"images":["2019ME0573"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"001","id":"THES395865"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"Glass","id":"AAT10797"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Denmark","id":"x28806"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"productionDates":[{"date":{"text":"1840-60","earliest":"1840-01-01","latest":"1860-12-31"},"association":{"text":"","id":""},"note":""}],"associatedObjects":[{"object":{"text":"C.348:1-2018","id":"O1463286"},"association":"Object"},{"object":{"text":"C.349-2018","id":"O1463287"},"association":"Object"}],"creditLine":"Given by Robin Hildyard","dimensions":[{"dimension":"Height","value":"11","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""},{"dimension":"Diameter","value":"5.6","unit":"cm","qualifier":"","date":{"text":"","earliest":null,"latest":null},"part":"","note":""}],"dimensionsNote":"","marksAndInscriptions":[],"objectHistory":"","historicalContext":"","briefDescription":"Drinking glass with vine leaf engraved decoration, Denmark, 1840-60","bibliographicReferences":[],"production":"","productionType":{"text":"","id":""},"contentDescription":"","contentPlaces":[],"associatedPlaces":[],"contentPerson":[],"associatedPerson":[],"contentOrganisations":[],"associatedOrganisations":[],"contentPeople":[],"associatedPeople":[],"contentEvents":[],"associatedEvents":[],"contentOthers":[],"contentConcepts":[],"contentLiteraryRefs":[],"galleryLabels":[],"partNumbers":["C.350-2018"],"accessionNumberNum":"350","accessionNumberPrefix":"C","accessionYear":2018,"otherNumbers":[],"copyNumber":"","aspects":["WHOLE"],"assets":[],"recordModificationDate":"2025-04-09","recordCreationDate":"2018-10-25","availableToBook":false}}
