The Gien factory was founded in the Loire Valley in 1821 by Thomas Hall, an Englishman who wanted to introduce fine English earthenware manufacturing techniques in France. Production began with functional tableware, and developed to include a wider range of dinnerware and decorative pieces.","physicalDescription":"Earthenware plate printed with a black and white engraving showing a magician in a frogged jacket, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, performing magic tricks by a table on which stand cups and balls.
