He has visited many circuses and has made hundreds of lightning drawings capturing moments at the ringside. He promotes the importance of circus as excellent affordable family entertainment, believing that drawing at the ringside offers him special insight into performance as an international art form.\n\nTweedy the clown, with his trademark quiff of red hair and lopsided smile, is the creation of the Scottish performer Alan Digweed, who appears annually with Giffords Circus and Cirque Berserk, in plays and pantomime, and in his one-man show. Giffords is the small family-run circus founded by Nell Gifford and her husband Toti in 2000 that tours annually in the west of England, only making Chiswick a regular tour date in 2015.","physicalDescription":"Tweedy the clown is shown in the circus ring throwing a bucket of what the audience thinks to be water at them.","artistMakerPerson":[{"name":{"text":"Tappenden, Curtis","id":"AUTH349929"},"association":{"text":"artist","id":"AAT25103"},"note":""}],"artistMakerOrganisations":[],"artistMakerPeople":[],"materials":[{"text":"cartridge paper","id":"AAT14136"}],"techniques":[{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"}],"materialsAndTechniques":"Chinagraph wax pencil on cartridge paper","categories":[{"text":"Drawings","id":"THES48966"},{"text":"Circus","id":"THES261738"},{"text":"Entertainment & Leisure","id":"THES48959"}],"styles":[],"collectionCode":{"text":"T&P","id":"THES48602"},"images":["2018LF9538"],"imageResolution":"high","galleryLocations":[{"current":{"text":"008","id":"THES356678"},"free":"","case":"","shelf":"","box":""}],"partTypes":[[{"text":"drawing","id":"x32498"}]],"contentWarnings":[{"apprise":"","note":""}],"placesOfOrigin":[{"place":{"text":"Chiswick","id":"x40135"},"association":{"text":"drawn","id":"x30545"},"note":"Giffords Circus is based near Stroud and tours in the south west from May to September.
