Designed by Erté [Romain de Tirtoff] (1892-1990).","physicalDescription":"<b>S.205:1-2018, Bodice</b>\r\n\nClose fitting short sleeved bodice, with a low round neckline. The neckline has been decorated with fabric roses. These are shaped to appear in full bloom and these flowers and the accompanying green leaves are secured to a length of wire. \n\r\nThe cream cotton ground of the bodice has been covered with panels of a pleated cream gauze. The short sleeves are stiffened with buckram[?] which has been covered with a cream gauze. These are open at the shoulder line and have carefully been shaped into folds which are secured with stitching, to create a ‘puffed’ effect. \n\r\nThe cut of the bodice references the silhouette fashionable in the mid-nineteenth century. It sits at the natural waistline and is cut with a piped hem which is straight at the rear, but extends into a deep soft point at the centre front. It has been stiffened with 16 channel of boning, with two lengths of boning positioned at the centre front of the pointed bodice and either side of the at centre back opening. There is no lignin, but a vertical panel of cotton has been added at the interior of the centre back interior, protecting the wearing from the lacing and eyelets of the fastening at this point.\n\r\nThe bodice laces shut at the rear with a cord running through 12 pairs of metal eyelets and a further hook and eye fastening at the top centre back neckline. \r\n\n\n<b>S.205:2-2018, Skirt</b>\r\n\nLong full cream skirt decorated with fabric roses. The skirt has an internal cream synthetic petticoat and a cream gauze overskirt. It is not lined.\n\r\nThe overskirt is divided into two parts, with a ‘floating’ upper skirt and, at the base of this, a wide pleated cream flounce which follows round the line of the hem.\n\r\nThe upper skirt has been shaped with soft horizontal scalloped ruching. It is decorated with 10 vertical lines of cream fabric roses, each shaped to create the impression of flowers in bloom, and bordered with dark green fabric leaves. \n\r\nThe skirt has a cream woven waistband, which fastens at the centre back with a large metal hook and eye.
